The Bay of Islands is situated at the top of the North Island of New Zealand. It’s made up of many islands of different sizes. It’s a popular tourist destination and is well-known for fishing and sailing.
For 100 NZ dollars (about £45 at the time) we went for a days sailing. The sun was shining and the water was so still. As with most of New Zealand there is always wildlife to keep an eye out for including Dolphins and an abundance of birds. We stopped at one of the islands, jumped off of the boat and swam assure. Our captain was going to meet us on the other side at another beach. The image above shows the view we were greeted with at the top of the island. Looks like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean right?
At the beach on the other side of the island we tucked into the lunch courtesy of the captain and his wife. We spent about an hour at the beach snorkeling and paddling in one of the kayaks which was attached to the back of the boat. Before long we had left and took a relaxed journey back to port soaking up the suns rays!
