The Tongariro Alpine Crossing in New Zealand is thought to be one of the best one day walks in the country. It takes in a range of scenes starting with misty baron landscapes, to massively vast views, to dense forests.
The walk itself is tough but manageable for anyone with a moderate fitness and can take anywhere up to eight hours. But it is definitely a great experience which is well worth the effort.
Along the route you get to take in views of this beauty below. Mount Ngauruhoe is what you can see below and it is otherwise known as ‘Mt Doom’ because of its use in Lord of the Rings. To ascend this mountain is optional and can add about two hours to the walk. Needless to say, on a fine day the views are spectacular.
